Tron Theatre proudly works with a wide range of artists throughout the year. We are committed to providing opportunities for artists at different points in their career, year round. Our Associate Artists are those who the Tron has an ongoing relationship with at any given time.

Our current associate artists are: Joanna Bowman, the Tron’s newly appointed Associate Director who will direct Wolfie by Ross Willis in our Changing House this May; Eilidh Loan, who has recently written and directed Tron’s production of Moorcroft being restaged at the Tron in summer 2023 then toured in conjunction with the National Theatre of Scotland in the autumn; Ramesh Meyyappan who has acted in recent Tron productions and co-productions and who worked with Andy Arnold in 2022 on the development and performance of a new piece of work in collaboration with International Visual Theatre, Paris and will present his own work, Love Beyond (Act of Remembrance) in February 2023; and Gary McNair who was commissioned to write Tron Theatre’s last main stage production before lockdown – his adaptation of The Alchemist – and who is now working on a new piece for production at the Tron in 2023.

Joanna is a theatre director and dramaturg living in Glasgow. She has worked for organisations including National Theatre of Scotland, Edinburgh International Festival, Citizens Theatre, Chichester Festival Theatre, Mahogany Opera, Perth Theatre, Òran Mór, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and Dundee Rep. She was a finalist for the 2022 JMK Award. She is a Creative Associate with Vanishing Point.

I am looking forward to contributing to a theatre which champions and supports artists at all stages of their careers and practice. I cannot wait to discover, direct and share new stories and forms on both of the Tron’s stages, and it will be a joy to contribute to and build on the diverse and inspired work that’s already taking place at the Tron both on and off the stage.”

Eilidh Loan is an award-winning actor, writer and director. In 2018, Eilidh graduated the Guildford School of Acting as the winner of the Bachelor of the Arts Acting Prize, the GSA

Entrepreneur Award and as a finalist in the BBC Carleton Hobbs Bursary Competition. In her graduating year, Eilidh won the prestigious Alan Bates Competition and has gone on to work across all avenues of the industry.

Eilidh was awarded the New York City Radio Award for directing and creating Two Bad Mice for Almost Tangible and since then has continued to work closely with the company, gaining a nomination for Best Actress in a drama at the One Voice Awards for her portrayal of Lady Macbeth in the five time award-winning production of Macbeth. Her first short film, Pure Sin for Head & Wrecker was awarded the Audience Choice Award at the 48 hour Film Festival.

Her recent credits include: A Castle for Christmas (Netflix), Traces 2, The Sister Boniface Mysteries, Pancake, Clique 2, Doctors, England’s Forgotten Queen (BBC), London Kills (Acorn TV), Doctor Who (Big Finish), Frankenstein (UK Tour), Mary & Ada Set the World To Rights (Óran Mòr), Me & My Left Ball (Tristan Bates) and Me and My Sister Tell Each Other Everything (Tron Theatre).

Eilidh has experienced very recent success as the writer and director of her debut play, Moorcroft, which premiered to five-star reviews on the main stage at Tron Theatre.

Ramesh is a theatre maker who develops performances using an eclectic mix of visual and physical theatre styles. Ramesh continually seeks to develop and extend his theatrical visual vocabulary, for example incorporating; circus techniques, bouffon, puppetry and illusion within his work. He enjoys the challenge of creating strong narrative visual work.

Since Ramesh moved to Scotland in 2006, he has played an important role in raising awareness of deaf to the Scottish theatre community. He worked tirelessly at making his work mainstream, accessible both to deaf and hearing. He was involved in the programme design team for the BA Performance in BSL and English at the Royal Conservatoire Scotland where he continues to teach the Visual Theatre module.  

Over the years, his solo performances and collaborations have toured nationally and internationally (over 20 countries) to much critical acclaim. He has been nominated five times for Best Actor at the Life! Theatre Awards (Singapore) and awarded the accolade twice. In Scotland he was nominated for a Total Theatre Award for Snails and Ketchup and for a CATS (Critic Award Theatre Scotland) – Best Male Performance for Off Kilter. Off Kilter (co-production with Tron & Theatrework) has been showcased in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Milan, Paris, Reims, Vienna, Shanghai and Singapore.

In recent years, Ramesh wrote and directed a modern adaptation of Peter Pan for Riksteatern Crea (National Theatre of Sweden) – toured over 40 shows throughout Sweden, Norway and France. He also wrote and directed an adaptation of Gogol’s The Overcoat for RCS as part of their final showcase with BA Perf in BSL/English. Recently, created a devised performance with a company from Bangladesh, with the support of British Council Bangladesh-UK a performance titled 1971. He is continuing to develop adapting a visual Shakespeare’s Macbeth script for Canadian based theatre company. 

He has just finished work with Bristol Old Vic  as part of the cast of a new show – Wonder Boy.

Ramesh is a board member of Vanishing Point Theatre Company. Ramesh is an Associate Artist of Raw Material and represented by Brennan Artists as an actor.

Gary McNair is a writer and performer from Glasgow who aims to entertain and challenge audiences in equal measure. His work has been translated into several languages and presented around the world. A mainstay of the Edinburgh Fringe, his last seven shows there have sold out and he has won the coveted Scotsman Fringe First Award three times. He is Writer in Residence at the National Theatre of Scotland and an Associate Artist at the Traverse and the Tron.

He loves telling stories and is delighted that people want to hear them.
