Tron Theatre aims to commission the very best writers and artists to create work for our audiences.  Developing and adding to an already rich canon whilst developing careers and seeking to produce diverse and far reaching work.  While new plays are not the only work we will produce, we see new writing as an essential ingredient in our programme.

New plays are essential to the progress and wellbeing of contemporary theatre; they assess and reflect the world we live in and sharpen our engagement with new ideas and world events.

We hope to inspire the writers that work with us to be courageous, passionate and theatrically ambitious.

In order for us to utilise our resources, support writers and produce the best work for our audiences, we will implement the following:

Unsolicited scripts: Tron Theatre will not accept unsolicited scripts but are open to beginning a dialogue with writers and artists via other channels (see opportunities).

Unsolicited scripts will be returned (if an SAE is enclosed) or will be disposed of.

This procedure is in place for a number of reasons –

  • We are a small staff team do not have the time or the resource to administrate and give writers constructive feedback.
  • There are a number of well established organisations and theatre companies in Scotland and the rest of the UK that are specialists in this field (see referral list)
  • The ratio of unsolicited scripts to full production is nominal (even in specialist new writing theatres)
  • The number of new plays we have the resource to produce is minimal

Opportunities: We have a number of opportunities that aim to connect with and develop artists.  These can be found on our website.  They include Outside Eyes, LabWeeks (etc) and offer more rewarding, longer-term relationships to connect with us, so that we can get to know you and your work.

Commissioning: We will endeavour to undertake at least one commission per financial year.

Playwrights will be, in the main but not exclusively, established writers with an interest in writing for the Tron Theatre and are Scottish or are based in Scotland.

Other organisations: If you have an unsolicited script you would like to send to a theatre because you are looking for production or for feedback, or for further playwriting opportunities we recommend you contact the following organisations:
