with Vanessa Coffey

This performance has taken place in the past

This introductory course is for performers, directors, producers, and anyone interested in incorporating best intimacy practice into their work. What is it like for an actor to rehearse and perform intimate scenes? How can a director, producer or writer make sure they’re able to tell the story they want to tell while being as supportive as possible with the actors? Participants will look at the Directors UK’s guidance on directing nudity and simulated sex, as well as go through approaches to scripted and unscripted material and will look at:

  • What is meant by ‘intimacy’
  • Why this role was introduced
  • How an intimacy coordinator works with actors, directors and production teams

Please note there will be no nudity/partial nudity or any simulated sex in this workshop.

As Scotland’s first and leading Intimacy Coordinator, Vanessa’s work has seen her collaborate on many series such as I Hate Suzie and Wolfe for Sky, Fate: The Winx Saga For Netflix, Scottish series Float and the upcoming series, Vikings: Valhalla for MGM/Netflix. Vanessa also consulted on the live production of The Panopticon for the National Theatre of Scotland, as well as having worked on several in-house theatre and Opera productions for RCS.
