Temporary Design Assistant

Tron Theatre seeks a temporary Design Assistant to work on this year’s early years Christmas show, The Night After Christmas reporting to the Set and Costume Designer. 

The Design Assistant position is a “hands on” role. The job is ideally suited to someone with prop making skills and scenic art experience. The individual will work closely with the Designer to source, buy, make and adapt the props and set pieces as specified by Designer required  for the show.  They Design Assistant will keep within the budget allocated by Production Manager and Designer.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate with the Designer on show/prop requirements
  • Work efficiently to ensure the timely supply of all made set and props
  • Ensure all work carried out by the Design Assistant follows Tron Theatre’s  H&S rules & regulations and equipment is used in a safe way

Person Specification

  • Experience of Props Making and scenic art in professional theatre
  • The ability to communicate well with individuals and to co-ordinate with other departments
  • Hands on experience of working with a range of materials and an open attitude to the challenges of working with new products
  • The ability to look and plan ahead as well as to react to immediate issues
  • The ability to work individually as well as alongside other makers

Work Experience Placements

The Tron Theatre is committed to offering work experience opportunities for college and university students studying a theatre related course. If you are a school pupil please check out our Tron Ambassadors scheme.

We receive lots of emails throughout the course of a year from students asking to come and do work experience with us but due to the nature of our programme we cannot accommodate everyone. However we feel by formalising our approach to work experience we will have a clear guideline for those wishing to gain a placement at the Tron Theatre.
