Longform Improv & the Power of Emotions

with Jason Perez

12th September 2018

Longform improv is an art form that's been made famous by the likes of the Second City and the Upright Citizens Brigade as well as by performers such as Chris Farley, Amy Poehler, and Donald Glover. Emotion is the glue that holds improv together. It's the thing that will lead you to stronger scenes with great POV, characters, and connection to your partner.

In this full-day workshop, participants will work on finding and using emotions in scenes. Having a strong emotion helps to get performers out of their head and playing to the top of their abilities. Participants will also learn how emotion will keep them in the moment and help them to follow their instincts.

Jason Perez is the Artistic Director of the Edinburgh International Improv Festival. Originally from Southern California, he started doing improv with the National Comedy Theatre and Comedy Sportz. In Los Angeles, Jason performed and trained with The Second City, Upright Citizens Brigade, and IO West. In New York, Jason co-founded the corporate improv training company Improv (In) Corporation. Jason has been teaching improv for 8 years and performing/training for 16 years. He has worked with cast members and writers of shows such as SNL, Conan, Parks and Recreation, Master of None, The Good Place, and WWE. He has also been trained by such legends of the industry as Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, Miles Stroth, Will Hines, Anthony Atamanuik, Brian James O’Connell, Alex Berg, and Frank Caeti.
