Mayfesto Resident Artists

Two artists, one writer and one director, will be selected as Resident Artists for the 2019 instalment of our mini-festival of provocative theatre, Mayfesto.

The Resident Writer will receive a first draft commission of £4,000, as well as space, funding and support for two weeks of script development.Separately, the Resident Director will receive a production budget of £20,000 to deliver a new work to Scottish audiences in our Changing House black box studio. Both artists will be brought together in the final two weeks of the festival to develop and then stage the Writer’s text in a limited run of Draft performances.

Resident Director

A successful Resident Director applicant receives:

  • a £20,000 production budget to deliver a new play for Scottish audiences as part of Mayfesto 2019, subsidised by the Tron Theatre.
  • support to lead a two-week script development with the Mayfesto Resident Writer, culminating in two Draft performances of the Writer’s script as part of Mayfesto 2019.

There will be two stages to the application process: you must first complete an online form detailing your directing background and idea for a production to deliver for a run of 11 performances in the Changing House during Mayfesto 2019.

Directors shortlisted through that process will then be invited to come to the Tron Theatre and pitch their idea directly to the selection panel. One director will then be offered the opportunity to plan and deliver the production with the support of the Tron Theatre.
