WHAT IS MAYFESTO?

Mayfesto was established in 2010 as a new theatre festival for Glasgow. Celebrating the spoken word and exploring contemporary global issues drawn out of political circumstance, it was both provocative and engrossing.

The inspiration came from Glasgow’s original theatre festival, Mayfest, which ended some fifteen years ago and which was aimed at being a ‘people’s festival’ fitting a then industrial city with a strong political tradition. Mayfesto is all about presenting ‘agenda-based’ work and a desire to re-establish that occasion to celebrate theatre in a city which has such a tremendous reputation and thirst for it as an art form.

While the focus for Mayfesto 2011 has shifted to the Celtic lands of Scotland, Wales and Ireland, showcasing powerful new writing remains at the Festival's heart. New work by the Tron Theatre Company will be presented alongside pieces from leading proponents of socially and politically engaged (and engaging) theatre.

Be here. Be part of it.
