The Maids is the murderous tale of two sisters, envious servants to the wealthy, self-centred and imperious Madame. In her absence Solange and Claire plunder their mistress’ coveted wardrobe and act out grotesque rituals of dominance and submission.
Written in 1948 and hailed as “Jean Genet’s exquisite, poisoned pearl of a play”, The Maids is a dark tango of spit diamond jealousies.
