Maller, a bellboy, and her former primary teacher Mr Peters, imagine who the previous guest was. And what bird flew through that window. The same window she stopped Mr Peters jumping from moments ago. Miner and canary? Wizard and phoenix? Magician and dove? They make a pact: whoever comes up with the best story wins. The prize of course being a matter of life or death.
