GLASGOW IMPROVISERS ORCHESTRA

This event was held in the past and is no longer available for booking.

Featuring performances from George Burt & Susan Alcorn

A major force on the European improvising scene almost since its inception in 2002, GIO has a matchless record for ambitious and imaginative collaborations and has achieved a rare measure of consistency in live performance and on disc. Featuring both ideas developed in rehearsal and completely spontaneous pieces, GIO’s performances are large scale exercises in vividly compelling adventure.

A meeting of true guitar mavericks, this concert presents George Burt, co-leader of Scottish improv specialists Burt-MacDonald, in a musical dialogue with American pedal steel innovator Susan Alcorn. Merging influences ranging from free jazz pioneer Derek Bailey to Nashville session picker supreme Lloyd Green and international folk music, it promises music full of exploration and suspense.
