1932. Two friends, Max in San Francisco and Martin in Munich, correspond affectionately through a series of letters. Jokey and intimate their longstanding friendship is suddenly thrown into crisis by the Nazis’ gradual rise to power. For Max is a Jew, and Martin’s blind enthusiasm for his new masters leads first to tragedy and then to a calculated act of revenge.

Originally published as a short story in 1938, Address Unknown is a gripping tale which became a literary sensation and was subsequently banned in Germany. This adaptation captures the voices and the personal struggles of those caught up in the rise of Fascism. It is also a riveting piece of theatre, building to a terrible sting in the tail.
